Day Thirty One: Te Anau to Dunedin

Once again we started the day with a rather wet weather prediction.

100%, eh? Think it'll rain?

That was okay though, as is was a travel day and pretty much all we needed to do was get some breakfast and car snacks then get on the road for a long driving day. Our final goal was Dunedin, which is on the east coast of the south island, kinda down toward the bottom third. It’s a city I’ve been to before and one that I will be in again toward the end of this trip.

This was in the Fresh Choice grocery store. I guess they think anyone can make a coffee with this PhD (Push Here Dummy) machine!

Not much to report, really. The drive was, thankfully, NOT rainy for most of it. We arrived in Dunedin and checked into our motel on George Street, which is one of the streets that bisects The Octagon. We were all pretty wiped out– it’s amazing to me how just sitting for a long stretch of time makes us tired — so we chilled for a bit and then found a place to go get some dinner, Filadelfio’s Pizza. I picked it out because my friend Darryl’s mentioned going to one in Christchurch so I thought it would be a good choice.

My post dinner walk was back to the Octagon and up and around toward Hulmes Court B & B (where I stayed in 2005) then back down a different street and round and about on Princes / George Street. We did not make it into Rob Roy’s Dairy, which is some place that Hilton our friend from Nelson mentioned was well worth a stop into. As it turned out, it was only a couple of blocks from where we were staying but we had a chocolate tour to do the next morning…

It was the music that made me look down this side alley. Sounded like The Mission District in SF!
