Day Thirty Five: Walking WINDY Wellington!

We had an entire day to explore Wellington on foot, starting from Lambton Quay where we were staying at Quest Apartments.

Our day included returns to many of the spots I saw in mid-December when I was here with other friends. See Day Ten (both Part 1 and Part 2), and Day Eleven. The day was clear and sunny as could be, and the wind was blowing a lot, especially by the water and Te Papa.

We headed into Te Papa to get out of the wind and to explore the exhibits. It was great, because this time I got to spend time in exhibits that I didn’t have time for the last time I was there. And of course we stopped for an afternoon coffee in Te Papa’s Cafe before doing the long walk back to Quest on Lambton. After a quick pit-stop back there we took the cable car up to the top of the hill and took a quickish peek around the Botanical Gardens. Honestly, it was SO windy up there I thought we were going to see some tree branches come down or something. The hit of the park was the zip line in the playground…which you have to be under 14 years old to go on. (Not that I would have done it even if the maximum age was 120!)

We went out to dinner on Courtenay and I saw this while we were there:

I like how the dog knows the ‘correct’ side of the car to drive from. Plus, he has terrific taste in vehicles!
