Day Forty Three: Kauri Forest to the “Mountain of Love”

On the road again!! I’m headed over to Te Aroha which is near a place I wanted to spend a bit more time in before I leave the north island on Wednesday– Karangahake Gorge. And wouldn’t you know it, just my luck, it was raining!! I did get a nice shot of the huge purple bougainvilla at the top of the road before I got onto the road to Dargaville, my morning coffee stop.

I just had to take a photo of this veggie processing place I passed by. Too cute!

Want to guess which two days I'll be in Te Aroha?

Seriously? How's a girl supposed to get any walking done?!

Te Aroha was one of the two places that Joy from de Preaux Lodge helped me select. And was she right on with this tiny but cool town! I arrived in the late afternoon and got checked into my B & B, which is called The Nunnery.

I'm in room two, which is perfect because that's a kowhai flower which is a tui bird's favorite food!

After getting checked in and unloaded I took a walk around town. It was raining on and off and OH MY GOODNESS, AUNTY EM was it windy. No matter, after all that sitting while driving and a low step count from the day before it was not an option to stay inside!! The town of Te Aroha has been around for a long time, and was a destination known for it’s thermal pools and mineral spas (see history link: here). I had a good walk around the shops (mostly already closed for the day) and then went into Te Aroha Domain for a look around and then a hike up the hill.
